Orientation of 1st years student 2023/2024

The Department of Economics and Development studies team organized an afternoon orientation session for the 1st year students (2023/2024) of Economics and Statistics on Thursday, 28th September 2023. There were about 400 1st year students present taking Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Economics and Statistics. They were accompanied and joined by various University of Nairobi students’ associations’ leadership. They had talks from the departmental Chair (Dr. Martine Odhiambo Oleche), various thematic heads, Student’s Leadership team (UNSA, UNARSA and ECOSA).

The talks all aimed to acquaint and expose the students to the various student associations within the University, give in depth explanation of what the course entails and advise students on university life. The main talk was given by the departmental chair who advised the students on balancing university life. Among the key takeaways from the talk were: knowing your priorities and disassociating yourself with people who do not add value.
