UoN Launched the African Continental Free Trade Area (Afcfta) Implementation Course

The Department of Economics and Development Studies and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Launched the African Continental Free Trade Area (Afcfta) Implementation Course on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the Mini Lecture Theatre (MLT) 401, University of Nairobi Towers

The launch brought together representatives of Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations; Government officials from trade and commerce ministries; Representatives from AfDB, IGAD, and other regional economic communities; Business leaders and Academic and training institutions involved in trade and development, from All over Africa.

The launch of the AfCFTA Implementation Capacity Course marked the official commencement of the full-scale roll-out of the critical training program. The event highlighted the importance of capacity building for chambers of commerce and businesses across Africa to ensure they are well-positioned to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the AfCFTA.

The launch also served as a platform to: 

(i) Showcase the success of the pilot program 

(ii) Announce the expansion of the course to broader audiences across Africa

(iii) Encourage collaboration between the academia, private sector, governments, and international organizations in driving AfCFTA awareness and implementation.
