To be a leading centre of excellence in instruction and research in the field of Economics. 

The school conducted the orientation for masters students on Tuesday 17th May 2016 from 5.30pm to 7.00pm. During the orientation, the students were taken through their responsibilities including course registration, programme structure and duration, attending classes, avoiding examination cheating. The occasion was graced by the school Director, Prof. Jane Mariara.

Monday, March, 21, 2016, a team from the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) the body that funds collaborative PhD and Masters programs, sent a team of advisory board to evaluate the School of Economics and its readiness to be a host-degree awarding University.

African Economic Research Consortium facilitates curriculum development and joint enforcement of standards. As the enforcing agency, AERC is responsible for all resource mobilization, grant and contractual arrangements for the collaborators.

On 15th March 2016, the Collaborative Ph.D. Programme in Economics (CPP) students reported to the School to embark on their PhD thesis research. CPP is a collaborative training programme among Sub-Saharan African Universities in the field of postgraduate training in Economics, executed by the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), with active participation of member universities. Under the programme, the School admits students who proceed to the University of Dar-es-Salaam for course work, then return to the University of Nairobi to write their PhD theses.
