The School of Economics is committed to staff development

Two academic staff members have recently obtained their PhD in Economics at the University of Nairobi, under the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Collaborative PhD program. They were awarded their degrees by the Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi during the 52nd Graduation ceremony. Their graduation is welcome as it will strengthen our service delivery in teaching, research and community service.

Dr. Phyllis Mumia Machio and Dr. Diana Njeri Kimani add to an already impressive group of health economists at the School. They also add to the growing number of female economists in Kenya and Sub-Sahara Africa, thus contributing to narrow the gender gap in the economics profession. Dr. Mumia holds a B.A. degree and M.A. degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi. She has been teaching Economic theory. Dr. Kimani holds a B.A. degree in Economics and Mathematics from Egerton University and M.A. degree in Economics from University of Nairobi. She has been teaching Economic Statistics, Econometrics and Environmental Economics to undergraduate students.
