School co-hosts workshop on Evaluating EAMDA’s Building a competitive banana industry in Kenya

The School of Economics, University of Nairobi in collaboration with the University of Sydney and East African Marketing Development Associates held a workshop titled ‘ Evaluating EAMDA’s Building a competitive banana industry in Kenya’ at the Nairobi Safari Club, on February 9th2016. This was an inception workshop for the project “An Impact Assessment of EAMDA’s Banana Initiative to Increase Technology Adoption by Smallholder Farmers in Kenya Project’.

Under financial support from the Alliance for the Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), East Africa Market Development Associates (EAMDA) is implementing the project “Building a competitive banana industry in Kenya”. Under the project, EAMDA will be offering information, training and marketing links to smallholder farmers in Kirinyaga County.

The University of Sydney, in collaboration with the University of Nairobi has received a competitive research grant from the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) to evaluate the impact of the project on the smallholder banana growers in Kirinyaga County.  The project runs from 28 September 2015 to 20 January 2018. The project investigators/researchers are: Dr. Shyamal Chowdhury (Lead PI); Dr. Uttam Sharma (PI); Prof. Jane Kabubo-Mariara (PI) and Dr. Munshi Sulaiman (PI)
